Acne is often an inflammatory condition; especially if you are dealing with pustules, papules, and/or cysts.
Causes of inflammation include: poor diet, alcohol, toxin exposure, poor sleep, inactivity, bacterial dysbiosis, weight problems, autoimmune conditions, high blood sugars, hormone imbalances and cortisol imbalances.
NOTE: It generally takes 3 months for acne to form and come to the surface. So even though you are taking steps to clear your skin now, it will take time for it to fully clear. Here are my top tips to start working towards improving your acne!
✅ Lots of veggies – double your servings at meals or aim for 5+ servings per day. One serving of veggies = 1 cup raw or 1⁄2 cup cooked. People with acne actually need more of these compared to people without acne.
✅ Eat at least 25-30g of fiber per day.
✅ Choose low glycemic carbohydrates like fruits, vegetables, whole grains, beans, and legumes.
✅ Add fermented foods like kimchi, coconut kefir, or sauerkraut.
✅ Lemon, Lime, Citrus (fruits supportive in Vitamin C for antioxidants)
✅ Blues/purples - berries, grapes, cherries, all excellent for resveratrol antioxidant✅ Cruciferous veggies - all supportive for liver function and detox
✅ Add more healthy fats like avocado, olives, sardines, salmon, chia seeds, almonds, and walnuts*.*
❌ Inflammatory Omega-6 oils like vegetable, soy, and corn oil
