Non Toxic Living can feel overwhelming so here’s where I would start and how I would prioritize!

Check the EWG Healthy Living App, Think Dirty or Yuka to scan your products. As you do this, I would swap out anything that is rated RED or very poor first, then swap the yellow or moderate risk next.

Prioritize things you use most frequently - things you use daily such as:

  1. Water quality! Ensure you have clean, filtered water and not just your fridge filter either, that doesn’t filter much at all, and Brita was sued for their claims and not filtering as much as they said. I recommend starting with an inline fridge filter from Clearly Filtered at a minimum, ideal to get the undersink filtration system.

I do not recommend whole house filters as they are costly, and mold factories.

    For showers, I recommend Jolie.

  2. Air Quality! We breathe an estimated 17,000 breaths a day, and breathe in about 2,000 gallons of air—enough to almost fill up a normal-sized swimming pool. Invest in an air purifier, open windows daily, and use non-toxic candles or essential oils instead of synthetic air fresheners.

We recommend AirDoctor or Allen Air purifiers.

  3. Skincare - I personally use Oliveda as it is clean and their brand is focused on beauty from the inside out and use the olive leaf/trees which have amazing health benefits. They have a skincare quiz you can take to see what would be best for you, when you buy 2 products from the results you get 1 free!

  4. Haircare - There’s a lot out there, Prose has been highly recommended or Alba Botanicals, Wellnesse, and ATTITUDE all with varying price ranges.

  5. Laundry detergent - we recommend and use TrulyFree (code FITMOM) for all home products including laundry detergent that works well! They also have fantastic products for all things laundry including bleach alternative, stain sprays/sticks/powder, washer cleaner, and fabric softener. I can attest that it keeps my whites WHITE and removes tough stains including makeup!

  6. Hand soaps/dishwasher detergent - I use TrulyFree (code FITMOM) for hand soap, dish soap, dishwasher and rinse aid. It does not leave a residue or water spots on glass.

  7. Food/Drinks - I would prioritize grass fed meat, the clean 15 and dirty dozen and wash fruits/veggies! I use the Therasage Ozone bubbler and the TrulyFree Fruit & Veggie wash

  8. Cookware - I use Caraway and I am so impressed, they are certainly worth the investment! I actually just started with the baking sheet because all the others kept getting weird, and got hooked!

  9. Ditch the plastics! Avoid plastic food storage and use glass or stainless steel instead. </aside>

Prioritize things you use less frequently:

  1. Household cleaning supplies - Again, I use all TrulyFree :)
  2. Dry Cleaning – Seek out ‘green’ dry cleaners to avoid harsh chemicals.
  3. Home fragrances—like candles (yes our favorite Bath and Body Works Candles), air fresheners, plug-ins, and even some essential oils—are often loaded with chemicals that can mess with your hormones. </aside>
